Dantismo muratoriano: non solo Perfetta poesia

Muratori’s judgment on Dante’s Comedy, certainly limiting but consistent with the orientations of the critics of his time, dates back to the Perfetta poesia italiana, an early work, from which however the great esteem for the lyrical Dante, the intention to prepare a commented edition, and the agreement with the linguistic ideas of De vulgari eloquentia shine through. Muratori’s more mature works, especially the masterpiece of the Antiquitates italiacae (in which the historical part of the commentary by Benvenuto da Imola, then unedited, is also published) show a profound knowledge of the Comedy, offer valid contributions to the interpretation of its lexicon and appreciate (as Andrea Battistini wrote) «its encyclopedic wisdom».
